Important symbols

The lightning symbol within a triangle warns of dangerous electrical voltage.

A vertical line and three horizontal lines in a circle indicate earth connection terminal.

The product contains charged capacitors. Wait at least 5 minutes after disconnecting the product before handling it.

An open book indicates that the manual should be consulted during installation.

Before installation

Download Ferroamp Installer app

You need to download Ferroamps installer app to be able to register and commission the system, this app can be downloaded at the following links:

Create account in EnergyCloud

To install and register a system, you as an installer need an installer account in Ferroamps portal EnergyCloud.

You can create this by going to the following link: https://portal.ferroamp.com/ or pressing Register in the APP.

If you already have an installer account, go ahead and skip this section.

If you don´t have an installer account, follow the guide below:

  1. Click on Register in the FerroampInstaller app or on the link above.
  2. Fill in all the information in the registration form.
  3. Verify that the email address you have registered is correct by opening the email from Ferroamp and clicking: Link to email address verification“. If the email does not appear in your inbox, check that you have registered the correct email address and that the email is not in the spam folder.

During installation

Safety distances

Please note that it is important to have a safety distance around the products in order for the installation to be safe and to maintain warranty. The products are mounted using wall brackets. Ensure that safety distances are maintained before screwing in the wall brackets.

Example installation.

DC cables

The units are linked together via +, – and PE. In this case, we have used our Power Distribution Box 5 as the interconnection box in the system. The EnergyHub connects to the top of the 63 A MCB in the middle of the cabinet, SSOs/ESOs connect to the fuse holders at the bottom edge of the DIN rail. Ferroamp recommends that multi-stranded cable with ferrules is always used in the DC grid.

Battery cables (ESO 15 kW)

Connect +, – and PE from the BMS to ESO15.

The ESO 15 kW comes with MC4 connectors for + and – with PE from the battery BMS that can be connected to the ground points in the chassis of the ESO 15 kW or to a separate earth terminal.

The ESO 15 kW also comes with a CAN communication cable, RJ45, to the I/O port. This is pre-thermenated for Pylontech’s CAN pinout and may need to be changed for other battery manufacturers.

For the communication to work, it is important that this is connected in the “CAN” port in the BMS.

The ESO15 kW needs to be connected to the same network as the EnergyHub, this is most easily done with a switch where the incoming network, EnergyHub and ESO 15 kW are connected.

Ferroamp also recommends connecting the battery to Pylontech’s own cloud service “Solarman”.

Cables - PV

To calculate how many panels you can connect per SSO, use Ferroamps dimensioning tool. The panels/mounting system can be functionally earthed through the chassis of the SSO as it gets its protective earth through the DC grid from EnergyHub. The EnergyHub in turn receives protective earth from the central where it is connected through the AC glove. If the SSO detects that the resistance between PE and PV+/PV falls below 1 MOhm, the SSO will alert for IMD fault and stop producing.
 

Communication/CT

EnergyHub, ESO 15 kW and the customers network connection (incoming network) need to be in the same switch/router for the communication to work. The ESO 6 kW communicates via PLC over the DC grid and does not require an external communication cable between the EnergyHub and Powercase.

It is important that the CT clamps are located directly after the electricity meter between (B) and (C) and measure all load in the property if EnergyHub is installed with the function of phase balancing to lower the main fuse in the property.

The current transformers should not be located between (C) and (D) on EnergyHub’s supply cable, or between (C) and (E) on the property’s consumers.

Commissioning

Create new system

Create a new system:

  1. Log in to your account in the Ferroamp-Installer app. Then click on the (+) icon to create a new installation.
  1. Fill in “Address” and “Name”, then click continue.
  2. Scan the QR code: “Portal registration key” with the EnergyHub device’s S/N on the included sheet in the box.

Then tap “Continue” to proceed to “Digital Self Audit”.

DSA (Digital Self Audit) - Commissioning

Click on the “Open DSA” button:

  1. Log in to your installer account. You can also access DSA and track your ongoing installations by logging in with your installer account at the following link: DSA
  2. Start the inverter and run CT Configuration as per the steps below: “EnergyHub and DC Grid Start-Up” and “CT Configuration“.
  3. Follow the steps in the DSA.
    Step 1: Check connections and CT.
    Step 2: Check internet connection and software version.
    Step 3: Check the contact with SSOs and ESOs.
    Step 4: Make system settings directly in DSA
    Step 5: Sign with your name to approve that you as an installer have gone through all the steps.

Start EnergyHub and DC grid

  1. Start the system via the AC circuit breaker, making sure that the DC circuit breaker in the distribution box is turned off.
  2. If the system has a battery, then start the BMS by turning on the switch on the back of the BMS and pressing the “Start” button until the BMS beeps. Check that the BMS is in “search mode” and flashing blue.
  3. Check the voltage on the incoming MCB (63A) that you have the correct polarity. “Link to image of the distribution box in Troubleshooting”
  4. Also check that SSOs and ESOs have the correct polarity both in the terminal of the device and in the DC distribution.
  5. After this, you can also turn on the DC switch in the Powercase or Power Distribution Box.
  6. Check that the status lights on SSOs and ESOs are illuminated.

CT configuration

  1. Tap the center of the display with one finger for 5 seconds until the text “Service menu enabled” appears.
  2. Set the CT ratio to match the current transformers you installed in the system. On the following link you can find a description for the different CT clamps that are compatible with the Ferroamp system: Ferroamp Current Sensors.
  3. Tap “Run CT Configuration”.
  4. The system will now run the CT configuration and check that the clamps measure correctly.
  5.  

Trouble shooting

Offline

If the system shows as “Offline” in the DSA, or the system has lost its connection to the internet and shows offline in the app, check the following:

  1. The contact between incoming fiber and the customer’s router
  2. The connection between the customer’s router and any network switch
  3. The Connection Between EnergyHub and Router/Switch

Plugging a computer into the same port that the EnergyHub is connected to is a good way to see if you are getting out on the internet.

By swiping on the display, you can also check if EnergyHub has an assigned IP address. If the system displays xx.xx.xx.xx“, EnergyHub does not receive an assigned IP address from the router.

EhubOS version

If the system shows that the EnergyHub is running the wrong software version (EhubOS Version) create a ticket with Ferroamp Support for guidance.

Fuses

Important! Before disconnecting DC cabling, connectors or DC fuses, the EnergyHub must be switched off and the conding bank in the system must be discharged.

Always check before pulling out a plug, removing a fuse, plugging in a plug, or screwing on a terminal to ensure that the system is de-energized.

In Ferroamp’s Power Distribution Box and ESS Powercase, there are DC fuses in the system to protect cables and devices in the DC grid. These are equipped with 32A fuse holders and 15A fuses from the factory.

It is possible to open the fuse holder and replace the fuse. Max 32A fuse in this fuse holder.

 

If a unit (SSO/ESO) has lost contact with the EnergyHub during operation and the LED is not lit, a good first step is to check the DC fuses.

  1. Turn off the AC breaker to the EnergyHub.
  2. Control measure on the DC circuit breaker (Points 5 and 6 in the picture below) so the system is de-energized.
  3. Open the fuse holder and remove the fuse.
  4. Then measure the continuity over the fuse to check that the fuse is intact.

EnergyHub DC

Important! Before disconnecting DC cabling, connectors or DC fuses, the EnergyHub must be switched off and the conding bank in the system must be discharged.

Always check before pulling out a plug, removing a fuse, plugging in a plug, or screwing on a terminal to ensure that the system is de-energized.

If all installed components of the DSA, step 4 shows red follow the steps below:

  1. Check if the LED on the bottom of the SSO/ESO is lit, if not, continue with the steps below. If the SSO and ESO receive DC voltage and the LED is lit, please wait 5 minutes before starting troubleshooting.
  2. Check that the DC circuit breaker in the distribution box is turned on.
  3. Turn off the inverter and check that the DC grid is de-energized.
  4. Check the connection in the DC distribution box, important that the EnergyHub is connected to the top of the MCB63A as shown below:
  • Check the DC connector in the EnergyHub. Note in the image below that (M) should be empty, if + or – is at this point, this must be changed. 

    Note!
    When connecting more EnergyHub units, Powershare or when connecting Emergency Power 1P/3P is used.

 

SSO

Before you begin troubleshooting DC cabling and plugging in devices to the DC network. Start by checking that the fuse is intact according to Troubleshooting: Fuses above.

Important! Before disconnecting DC cabling, connectors or DC fuses, the EnergyHub must be switched off and the conding bank in the system must be discharged.

Always check before pulling out a plug, removing a fuse, plugging in a plug, or screwing on a terminal to ensure that the system is de-energized.

If one or more SSOs in DSA, step 4 shows red follow the steps below:

  1. Check if the LED on the bottom of the SSO lights up, if not, continue with the steps below. If the SSO is receiving DC voltage and the LED is lit, wait 10 minutes before starting troubleshooting.
  2. Check that the DC circuit breaker in the distribution box is turned on
  3. Check if there is one or more SSOs that are not connecting to EnergyHub, through DSA or through the “Service Mode>SSO Status” in the EnergyHub display.
  4. Turn off the EnergyHub and check that the DC grid is de-energized.
  5. Check the connection to the SSOs that do not light up or that you do not get communication with the distribution box as shown below:
  • Check the DC connector in the SSO, Ferroamp always recommends using multicarded cable with ferrules to minimize the risk of bad contact in the terminals. Feel free to pull the plug gently to make sure that the terminal has made contact with the ferrule.

 

ESO

Important! Before disconnecting DC cabling, connectors or DC fuses, the EnergyHub must be switched off and the conding bank in the system must be discharged.

Always check before pulling out a plug, removing a fuse, plugging in a plug, or screwing on a terminal to ensure that the system is de-energized.

If the battery in DSA, step 4 shows red follow the steps below:

  1. Check if the LED on the underside of ESO is lit, if not, continue with the steps below. If ESO receives DC voltage and the LED is lit, please wait 10 minutes before starting troubleshooting. Then continue with Troubleshooting ETH & I/O.

Troubleshooting DC

  1. Check that the DC circuit breaker in the distribution box is turned on.
  2. Turn off the inverter and check measure so that the DC grid is de-energized.
  3. Check the connection to ESO that is not lit in the DC distribution box as shown below:
  • Check the DC connector in ESO, Ferroamp always recommends using multi-carded cable with ferrules to minimize the risk of bad contact in the terminals.

Troubleshooting ETH – EnergyHub:

If the EnergyHub is online but ESO cannot connect with the EnergyHub and displays 8 pulses on the LED. And that you got a red box over “Batteries” in DSA:

  1. Check and test the network cable between your switch and ESO.
  2. Check that the switch is installed under the customer’s router and not directly into the fiber box.
  3. Restart ESO by turning off the switch in the DC distribution and wait until the LED goes black. Then turn on the switch and check the pulses of the led diode.
  4. Try a different network switch.

Troubleshooting I/O – CAN:

If ESO makes contact with the EnergyHub but does not register a battery, ESO displays 4 pulses on the LED. This also causes the DSA to report red over “Batteries”.

  1. Make sure that you followed the boot sequence correctly. It is important to start the battery/BMS before the DC grid to ESO15. See Start-up of EnergyHub and DC Grid
  2. Check that the I/O connector is connected to the “CAN” on the BMS and that it is not in the “LAN”. See more at Battery Wiring (ESO15)
  3. Check that the I/O connector is correctly terminated and that it is seated in the correct direction. See picture below:

Note! The described CAN-pinout above is for connection to Pylontech’s BMS. When connected to other batteries, the Pinout to ESO I/O port may vary.

The jumper that bridges the interlock function (Pin: 8 and 6) in the connector should sit against the wall of the included I/O to CAN cable.
