The winter’s long and extensive power outages in central Sweden show the need to be able to keep home batteries running for a longer period. Ferroamp’s new backup inverter Ferroamp Emergency Power 3P can be combined with a V2X charger or generator for almost unlimited operation when the power grid is down.
“We want to give homeowners security and flexibility. When the power goes out, Ferroamp Emergency Power 3P takes over the operation of the battery and PV system, and in the event of longer interruptions, you can choose to economize on capacity or supply new energy via various connections,” says Björn Jernström, founder of Ferroamp.
Using PV and batteries as a backup in the event of a power outage has a clear limitation. If the sun is not shining, even a larger battery will run out in just a few hours. Ferroamp has two solutions to the problem.
Last year, a single-phase backup was launched where the house’s most important power consumers can be connected. With a limited power output, the battery can stay running for a longer period of time.
The new three-phase backup can discharge with greater power so that the entire house is supplied. Via a relay output, large loads can be controlled down for longer endurance, but there is also the option of adding capacity from external sources.
A diesel generator can be connected to the unit to charge the battery, but there is also the option to connect Ferroamp’s V2X charger. Then the electric car’s large battery can be used as a backup, which for a normal house lasts for several days up to a week. By charging the car where there is still electricity, the system can be kept running for virtually an unlimited time.
