FAQ

Almost all electronics in our homes are powered by direct current. LED lighting, fans, refrigerators, TVs, computers, etc. In these devices, small rectifiers convert the alternating current (AC) in our wall outlets to the direct current (DC) needed to power the devices. Solar panels produce direct current and batteries in both our homes and cars are powered by direct current. By building a DC infrastructure, we reduce energy losses between solar cells and batteries and enable the future connection of more DC components directly to the DC network. This will enable significantly reduced energy losses and more efficient and smarter energy usage. DC technology also offers greater controllability than AC, providing a more flexible system.

PowerShare is Ferroamp’s patented technology for sharing electricity between buildings. PowerShare builds on Ferroamp’s direct current technology and DC network, but in addition to connecting solar panels and batteries to the DC network, additional Ferroamp systems with their own EnergyHubs are connected to their own grid connections. This allows you to share electricity from the solar panels and storage capacity in the batteries between multiple buildings. The distribution of electricity can then be intelligently controlled in the DC network based on the measurement data we collect from each grid connection with the current transformers connected to each EnergyHub

You do not need to replace your installation to use the Ferroamp system. You can supplement your installation with an EnergyHub to access dynamic phase balancing, smart measurement of import, export, energy usage, etc., as well as to control and act as a load guard/power guard for electric vehicle charging stations. You can also connect one or more batteries to control consumption and storage. If you want to connect the solar panels to the Ferroamp system, you can do so by adding solar string optimizers to integrate the solar electricity production into the system.

The Ferroamp system has three open APIs that can be used for integrations with other control and visualization systems. These are a CloudAPI, a Modbus TCP API, and what we call the Ext-API, which is an MQTT client API. The Ferroamp system also has integrations with several charging stations through the OCPP 1.6-J communication protocol. See which charging stations we support here. The Ferroamp system also has an API integration with CTEK charging stations that access measurement data on the property’s available currents based on consumption and main fuse level, as well as an integration with SolarFox for visualization of production and measurement data.
